1) Torah allow for a physician or another person to assist someone in killing themselves?

2)Does the answer change according to the circumstances?

3) Why is there no federal law about suicide?

- The Jewish law says that you may not partake in assisted suicide because the body does not belong to the person wanting to be killed rather it belongs to the creator, Hashem. PLEASE QUOTE THIS SOURCE.

- There are only two mentions of suicide in the Jewish Bible: King Saul (I Samuel 31:4) and David's counselor, Ahitophel (II Samuel 17:23) in both of theses situations there was another person assisting in the suicide.
- (I Samuel 31:4 - PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY SHAUL WANTS TO KILL HIMSELF HERE. REMIND THE AUDIENCE THAT SHAUL IS THE KING - WHY WAS IS SO IMPORTANT TO SHAUL NOT TO BE CAPTURED THAT HE THEREFORE WANTS TO KILL HIMSELF (AND DOES)? Saul asked his armor- bearer to stab him with a sword before the Philistine people came to torture him. His armor-bearer refused to kill him so Saul, so Saul took the sword and killed himself. http://bible.cc/1_samuel/31-4.htm
-(II Samuel 17:23)- When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, WHAT ADVICE? PLEASE EXPLAIN THE SCENARIO - LOOK IT UP AND BRIEFLY SUMMARIZE THE STORY! he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his house in order and then hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father's tomb.
-Masada- The Jews knew that the Rromans were coming to kill them, [so they hid at Masada - THIS IS A BIT OFF. THEY HAD BEEN LIVING AT MASADA FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS ALREADY - LOOK IT UP! THEY DID NOT WANT TO BE CAPTURED, AND KNEW THAT THEY COULD NOT HOLD OUT AGAINST THEM ANY LONGER. The Jews did not want to be killed by the Romans and they not only killed themselves, but they also killed their peers. This is assisted suicide because there is another person involved in the suicide. I do not agree with the path that they decided to take because they were not 100% positive that the Romans were going to kill them, maybe they could of escaped or even just got hurt!
-Bais Yaakov girls- One of the teachers sent a letter saying that they were taken somewhere and told that the Natis are coming. Instead of waiting to be killed by them they decided to make a poisen for themselves and drink it. THIS IS NOT A GOOD SUMMARY. PLEASE RESEARCH THE STORY A BIT MORE AND SUMMARIZE IT MORE CLEARLY.
- Many people do not take suicide as part of the 5th commandmant "thou shall not kill", but it is rejected in modern day becuase in the torah ending the life of a human early is the opposite of what the torah is all about.

- A Jew who commited suicide may not be burried in a place with other Jews, so they must be burried in an aread away from everyone else. In addition we do not sit shivah for someone who commited suicide.
